The High Performing Year 8/9 group is a small group predominately made up of swimmers with one cyclist, participating in 2 sessions a week developing their skills, fitness and tactical awareness. During the HPSP sessions there is a focus on fitness and conditioning as well as theory where students study topics such as Sport Psychology, Nutrition, Biomechanical Movements, Weight Training and Recovery Methods. In Terms 2 and 3, due to weather constraints and facility closures, students spent their practical sessions in the gym building on their strength and conditioning training. They have been working on specialised programs targeting weights, endurance and core. On top of this students have also been accessing the Train Heroic program through their phones, which has exercises based on their particular sport which is updated each week. When weather permits, there has also been some sprint and endurance running outside.
This small group of students work extremely hard with all of their training and theory work and we are seeing positive results from each of them in their given sports.
